Caladium White Delight – 9cm
White delight caladiums are commonly known as angel wings, lance leaf and white wings.
Caladiums are native to the tropical rainforests and equatorial regions of South America and latin America.
White delight is an eye-catching tropical plant with large love heart shaped frilly foliage. It has a mostly white transparent leaf with only a very small amount of pink where the stem meets the top of the leaf and is surrounded with a dark green border. This caladium may not be very bright in comparison to some of its relatives but it will fit in beautifully amongst rich tropical greens and bright contrasting colours to create your very own tropical space. caladiums have an unusual texture, they are almost paper thin and some of them are almost transparent. For most of us they will go dormant and die back in the winter and grow for us again the following year. When in the right conditions caladiums can grow to just over 1ft and can have a spread of up to 1ft or more.
It is toxic to humans and animals.
It does not come with the ceramic pot shown in the pictures.
*Please note* Plants may have been watered before shipping, do not water upon arrival unless they are dry.
Part sun, part shade (indirect light) – Plants with this requirement are easy to find a perfect spot for. West- or East-facing windows are great for these or even a spot further away from a very sunny window.
Top Tip – Plants tend to grow towards the light – rotate your plant every time you water it to make them grow evenly.
High Demand – Before you water always feel the soil. The soil should always be moist as this plant loves water and does not like to dry out. However, they love the perfect balance between wet and dry so if you squeeze the soil and water weeps out, then it is too wet to water again. If the plant gets too much water, it is at risk of rot.
Water type sensitive – Try not to use water straight from the tap because this plant is extremely sensitive. You can use filtered water, rain water or tap water which has been sat out for at least 24 hours to allow some of the chemicals to evaporate.
These are the recommended temperatures for your plant to thrive, making it happy and healthy: 15°C-23°C
Growth period – The growth period for this plant is spring/summer.
In optimal conditions, it should be fertilised during the growth period because this will assist in keeping your plant alive as well as promote healthy growth. You can use a diluted liquid fertiliser or sprinkle a solid fertiliser (Silver Soil Booster) on top of the soil. Always follow the product instructions. However Caladiums do not need a lot of fertiliser, and using too much can burn the foliage. We recommend using a fertiliser at 1/4 strength of what you would normally use for plants.
Resting period – The growth period for this plant is autumn/winter.
Only fertilise this plant in its resting period if it is actively growing (putting out new leaves) and use a weak fertiliser at half the recommended dose. Caladium leaves will naturally die down in the fall so will not need fertilisation. If you were to fertilise a dormant plant it won’t absorb the nutrients which will stay in the soil and can cause chemical burn to the plant.
High humidity – This means keeping them in a warm, humid, draft free location. You can increase humidity by using pebble trays under your pots, by grouping plants close together, by misting in the morning and of course using a humidifier.
Aroid mix – You want the soil to be moist but well-draining. Use an aroid mix that is chunky, aerated, and well-draining. Try 1-part coco coir + 1-part orchid bark + 1-part perlite.
Toxic for animals and humans.
